Rockstar Acquires Video Games Deluxe Ahead of 2025 Releases

Rockstar Games has acquired Video Games Deluxe, an Australian game development studio, as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen its global studio network.

In a major announcement on March 3, 2025, Rockstar Games revealed that it has acquired its longtime partner, Video Games Deluxe, an Australian development studio based in Sydney. The studio, which will now operate under the name Rockstar Games Australia, has had a history of collaborating with Rockstar on several projects, including the re-releases of LA Noire and its VR counterpart, LA Noire: The VR Case Files, as well as updates for Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition in 2021. The acquisition is seen as a crucial move as Rockstar continues to expand its portfolio of internal studios. Video Games Deluxe is led by Brendan McNamara, the director and writer of LA Noire and the founder of the now-defunct Team Bondi. McNamara expressed his excitement over the acquisition, calling it an “honor” to have worked with Rockstar and a “thrill” to be officially part of the company. Jennifer Kolbe, Head of Publishing at Rockstar Games, also expressed enthusiasm about bringing Video Games Deluxe into the Rockstar family.

This acquisition comes at a significant time for Rockstar Games, as its parent company, Take-Two Interactive, is gearing up for several major releases in 2025. Most notably, Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6), the next installment in the blockbuster Grand Theft Auto series, is expected to dominate the year’s gaming landscape. Fans are eagerly anticipating the second trailer for the game, which has been the subject of numerous theories and speculation. Additionally, other anticipated titles from Take-Two include Mafia: The Old Country, a prequel to the Mafia series, and Borderlands 4, slated for release in September 2025.

With the acquisition of Video Games Deluxe, Rockstar Games is further solidifying its position as one of the industry's leading developers as it prepares for a monumental year in gaming.
